What is your role at the LEGO® Group? Model Designer for Super Heroes

How did you get into building with LEGO bricks, especially building your own creations? During a trip to Europe with my then fiancée I discovered the pick and build walls at LEGO stores. This was the dream of my childhood, being able to get enough of each part to build what you like without running out of the repeating parts you already have in your tub.

What kind of creations do you love building the most, and why? I love to challenge myself in my building, this can take many forms. Complex mechanisms, organic shapes, humanoid figures, and building with limited parts. All these challenges excite me and the diversity of them is what keeps me interested and involved in LEGO building as a hobby.

If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring LEGO builders, what would it be? Build. Build things you love, build things that challenge you, build things that inspire you, be curious with what other people are building and ask questions, in person, on socials, I’m yet to meet a builder who isn’t super excited to share their techniques and help inspire new builders.

How does it feel to have your work exhibited here at LEGO House - Home of the Brick? My life jumps from one surreal to the next, I’m still convinced that one day I will wake up from the dream and I will be an engineer in Australia building mining trucks again. Until then, it’s all smiles around here.

Title Ozzie Christmas

Can you describe your model and what it represents? I wanted to capture the feeling and atmosphere of an Australian Christmas for a European audience. Growing up snow and winter Christmas’s where something that happens in movies. Real Christmases are peak summer, running under sprinklers, slip and slides with the family in the sun and road trips to visit extended family. Santa cognisant of the temperature dons his iconic board shorts for his Australian deliveries.

How long did it take you to build? The model was built over approximately 40 hours.

Approximately how many LEGO elements did you use? I have no idea, but at least 10!

Are there any hidden details, Easter eggs, or techniques in your model that fans should look out for? The most fun technique is the way the base was constructed using a 3-dimensional reflected triangle on the large ball joints to get the funky angle in system.
