13 September 2024: LEGO House and Billund Airport today unveiled a new permanent installation as a joint collaboration, paying tribute to the official Home of Brick. The installation is designed to greet guests at the airport and instantly immerse themselves in the magic of the LEGO brick, comprising of three bespoke models that reference signature elements of the ultimate LEGO experience.

Billund Airport offers direct flights to over 120 destinations and serves close to 4 million passengers annually. One-third of all scheduled passengers at Billund Airport are international travellers heading to West Denmark. Many of these travellers share a common interest in visiting LEGO attractions, including LEGO House, while in Billund.

Over the past year, the airport has redesigned its welcome flow to better accommodate the many international travellers, giving them an immediate sense of Billund as soon as they disembark. The final touch in this transformation is the introduction of LEGO House’s installation, which comprises of three large LEGO builds, designed to establish the feeling that visitors have arrived at the 'Home of the Brick'.

“Billund is the ultimate LEGO destination and LEGO House is attracting more and more international visitors. So far in 2024, we’ve welcomed guests from over 100 countries. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to have this LEGO installation at Billund Airport, ensuring that travellers experience an instant touch of LEGO magic as soon as they set foot in Billund. We hope these figures will remind visitors that the magic is just a doorstep away from the airport— welcoming LEGO fans of all ages," says Kathrine Kirk Muff, Managing Director of LEGO House.

The three LEGO figures will be located in the airport’s arrival area. A scaled version of the LEGO Dinos and the Tree of Creativity will be on display the baggage claim area, while the welcoming girl will be positioned in the arrivals hall to greet guests. The LEGO figures are all visually inspired by much loved sculptures already found at LEGO House. For instance, the Dinosaur is a relative of the LEGO House dinosaurs displayed in the Masterpiece Gallery on the top floor of LEGO House. The Welcoming Girl represents a Play Agent, similar to those who greet visitors in LEGO House and guide them through the playful experiences. Meanwhile, the
Tree of Creativity is a miniature version of the large, iconic tree found in LEGO Square at the centre of the house. However, don’t be fooled by its smaller size—the tree is constructed from 120,046 LEGO bricks, weighs 270 kg, took 770 hours to build, and stands 2.5 metres tall.

"As West Denmark's International Airport, we are excited to showcase some of the unique experiences that are part of Billund’s DNA and special character. LEGO House is a standout attraction that you won’t find anywhere else in the world, so we are absolutely thrilled to unveil this new permanent installation and hope it will inspire travellers to explore the city and experience the magic of LEGO bricks from the moment they arrive,” says Jesper Klausholm, Chief Marketing Officer from Billund Airport.
